2019 Activities for a start ….

I am not one who makes New Year Resolutions.

I can’t say that 2018 was a wonderful year for me.   What I can say is I am looking forward to enjoying  good health and happiness in 2019.

I have enrolled in U3A  – A University of the Third Age . Learning for Leisure and Pleasure for Seniors.

It’s a place where you can learn new skills , make new friends, stimulate your mind and keep active.  There is a wide range of activities to choose from.

The activities I have chosen are :

  1. Art School – Beginners.  Two hour fortnightly classes.  Some of my readers already know that art is one of my passions.  The classes advance on to Intermediate, Advanced and Master Class.
  2. Choir.  I  love singing and wanted to join a choir. There are two choirs Kumbartcho Singers and Concordia Choir. Kumbartcho Singers cannot take on any more members just now because they go to Aged Care facilities to entertain and are restricted on room.  I was sad that I couldn’t join but there was another option the Concordia Choir which requires a basic audition.  I made the necessary enquiry and so far have been accepted for an audition on January 21st.  I have been in choirs at church in the past and also in a musical.  I didn’t tell them about karaoke because this choir is serious stuff and does four part harmony.  Apparently this year the Concordia Choir is going to be doing something different  – I will let you know when I find out.   I am so excited. The choir meets twice a month.

There are numerous other activities that I could have enquired about.  If the Art School goes well and I get accepted for the choir that will mean that I will be occupied for four days a month and each session is two hours.  That will leave me plenty of time to go to one-off activities and also the movies and lunch meetings with my bestie friend.

Being Creative

Several weeks ago I decided to try my hard at painting.   I have been watching  an artist on YouTube – Frank Clark.  The first painting needed to be done all one colour – a toning picture. I was pleasantly surprised and happy with my first attempt even though I didn’t have the correct type of bushes for the reeds at the bottom of the painting.

First Art Class

This afternoon I decided to try again.  The proportions and some of the colours are not quite right.   It was the first time I have tried painting trees since I was in primary school. I am happy with the sky and the mountains in the distance.

I am looking forward to my next attempt.

City Girl Goes Out Country

I have just spent 3 days visiting my daughter at the cattle station in South West Queensland.   Rosie the dog is usually happy to see anyone that visits. Kahula is a 5-year-old Buckskin Filly…..still very young and is being trained by my daughter.  38 degree celsius , a dry heat and numerous flies  so I had to cover my face.  The area has been in a severe drought, we did get a good dose of rain while I was there and hopefully there will be more.

Serenity – Accept – Courage – Wisdom

Serenity

I worked in Drug and Alcohol Detox / Rehabilitation for many years.  While working there I learned the Serenity Prayer that was used in Alcoholic  Anonymous Groups.

The prayer or statement can be used for any issue that you may be struggling with.

If you don’t believe in God you can use the term Higher Power, Cosmic Power or  whoever you believe in or worship.

To me it is a comforting statement which has helped me many times in my life.

Wishing a happy day for everyone reading this, be blessed my friends 🙂

Release Emotional Stress.

During my life I have been faced with numerous stresses, anxiety and depression.   At 68 years of age I am still learning to deal with it and have been coping well . I had an upset today which I will share with you.

A few months ago I became friends with a couple on Face Book who I will refer to as Liz and Don.    Don is the father my granddaughters boyfriend.  I have never met Liz and Don, they live in another country.

Today Liz posted for the world to see that she wasnt feeling well.  Others had responded by saying things like ‘enjoy being looked after by your man, enjoy it while it lasts’ .  I wrote ‘I hope you get well real soon Liz  enjoy being pampered by Don …..I then added three laughing faces .

Live , Love and Laugh is my policy in life.

unfortunately I offended Liz.  She sent me a private message asking why I put three laughing faces and what had I heard about Don to do something like that. Liz went on to say that Don is a lovely kind caring man.

I responded by saying that I wasn’t  trying to offend and in fact was being kind to her, plus had never heard anything wrong about Don.   I told her that I considered the laughing faces to be happy faces.

Liz went on to post a statement about humiliating negative people and that they should be removed.

I started stressing and becoming anxious and had some tears.

I unfriended the couple from my Face Book contacts. There may have been a better way of dealing with it.  I gave myself a few hours to think about it before I unfriended the couple.

I had to RELEASE THE EMOTIONAL STRESS.

Abundance of Parsley – Update

After all the beautiful rain  here in Brisbane the edible plants are growing well. Seeing  an abundance of parsley I thought I should save it.   Today I decided to pick some, wash and pat dry and  then freeze into small one use bags.  I then brewed  parsley in boiling water…mild flavour….drink it hot or chilled and so very healthy .

Some of the benefits of including parsley in your diet are as follows: ( information found on the internet).

Improving digestion,  stimulating appetite, reducing spasms, encouraging hair growth, carminative, anti-inflammatory, expectorant, diuretic, mild laxative properties, cancer fighting antioxidant.

I am sure there a probably many more benefits of using parsley.

Gardening Therapy

I live in a rental duplex. My garden is restricted to pot plant gardening.  Even though I  definitely do not have a green thumb I enjoy tending to the few plants that I have got…. its good therapy.   After the glorious rain that has recently happened here in Queensland the plants have gone wild.  I have spotted tomatoes forming on the plant which was recused last March from the roof guttering.  The rosemary and parsley are doing well, I  often use them in my cooking.  The bees are enjoying the lavender which is also a deterrent to flies.  I plan to plant some herbs sometime soon.
