All Aboard

Over the past few years I have written a few short stories, fiction and non fiction. Today while browsing through my stories I came across ‘All Aboard’, a non fiction story that I wrote. The story is about a return train trip than I did in November 2014.   Brisbane – Townsville – Brisbane.

The Sunlander long distance train was used to travel between Brisbane and Cairns.

  1. I have fond memories of Townsville…. This is the place we linked to do business very first time in Australia 🇦🇺. It’s pre Sydney Olympic preparation years way back 1996…. I had a lots of friends there in past… Unfortunately the company stop business and close down later on. Your post make me remember old days once again…. Thank u. Cheers

    1. Townsville is a nice city, the summer heats are far more extreme than Brisbane. Townsville was recently flooded in many areas, people were flooded out of their homes. Unfortunately I didn’t get to see much of the city because my visit had to be cut short.

    1. Sorry about that. The story is mainly based on the banter and comical happenings on the train. I was only in Townsville for two days, not so good experience, cut the visit short and headed back home. I wrote the short story to make trip worth while.

  2. I enjoyed your memoir piece and sometimes travel by train, myself. One time at a stop the police showed up to remove a man from the train. I had seen him earlier, and he appeared to be inebriated. He didn’t even put up a fuss while he was led away from the platform. I often wonder what he did, stuck out there in the middle of Texas in a small town with no transportation…

    1. Thank you for reading about my train trip. I would imagine the police would have looked after the inebriated man until he sobbed up and put him on the next train. I am getting the urge to do another train trip. Have a great day. Cheers Ally xx

      1. …Travelling is always a big adventure, whether you go by foot, bike, bus, train, plane. I always had fun travelling by trains in my homeland Croatia. Always met crazy people, especially among the older ones…

      2. Yes, you can get ideas everywhere, so it’s better always to have something where you can write or memorise these ideas, that you don’t forget it later (and use it to create some new work), what usually happens to me….
