I plan to buy budget cube shelving x2. My living room is small and rather dark because it doesn’t get any direct sunlight.
The internal walls are brick and have to stay that way.
I have found the shelving I like but can’t decide whether to get black or oak.
I plan to store books, art gear and maybe a couple of pot plants on them.
I would appreciate your thoughts on the matter.
In anticipation thanks for your ideas π
If you go with black it will catch attention and the oak will be like same family not much noticable. but plants will look beautiful on oak
Stay wealthy healthy safe and happy

Ally, if it were me,I will pick the oak one because it is a lighter color. The black one will only emphasize the room darkness. Perhaps, white curtains or white venetian blinds will do the trick for the windows. White plastic or real flowers in a vase in the living room would help too. Those socket night lights we put on the wall in case we need to walk around in the middle of the night would help also. Much better than candles which could become a fire hazard. Just my thoughts.

Thankyou Josie. I have got white net curtains and also stone coloured blockout drapes. I like the idea of the oak shelves. I agree with you about candles definitely a fire hazard. I really do appreciate your thoughts π.

I would say must be oak to keep the room light. I have an Ikea similar unit in my tiny office in bright yellow!

Thank you. I must check out IKEA. The Colour Oak must be popular, most are out of stock, plenty of white and some black. I will wait until Oak is available.

I have a similar unit in oak and really like it; looks more like real “furniture” to me.

That’s good to know Becky. Today I managed to find an oak unit and ordered two of them ,they will arrive as ‘flat pack’s π

The oak will blend well with the wall. I think the black may be too much of a contrast.

Thanks so much for your opinion. Its really helpful to me to get ideas from others. I have ordered two oak units. They must be popular and in big demand, very hard to find. It might be a few weeks before they arrive. I will wait patiently π and then will hire the flat pack man that I have used before and trust.
