Several months ago I mentioned in one of my blogs that I have cataracts in both eyes.
They were first diagnosed about four years ago and have got progressively worse.
In March this year I saw a new optometrist and got a second opinion. I was referred to the public hospital eye clinic. I knew the waiting list to be seen was long.
Almost 3 months ago I was seen. I was put on the Category 2 list for surgery.
I am booked to have the right eye fixed up on September 17th.
I am so blessed to be getting my eyes fixed up. Having blurred vision has affected my lifestyle somewhat, things such as no driving, difficulty reading books, problems finding items at the supermarket, had to move my chair closer to the tv, hard to do my art and craft things.
I now have a better understanding about the issues people have with permanent vision
Sending Big virtual hugs and hoping your sight is restored soon. I have a friend who had both eyes done and his sight is so much better now x

Thanks Christine, virtual hugs gladly accepted. I have heard good reports from others as well. The specialist said I might only need glasses for reading, my current ones are progessive lens x

Went through cataract surgery 6 years ago. I now have 20-20 vision. Make sure that the surgeon has a spotless record.
A waiting list for eye surgery?

Nice to get a good report from someone that has had successful cataract surgery.
Because I cannot afford to be in private health I have to go public.
The public hospitals are under funded, staff are overworked, elective surgery lists are full up. I am thankful that I got in so soon.

I am going through cataract removal at the moment, and my second eye was done two weeks ago. The vision in eye number one is brilliant and number two is getting there so I’m really glad I had them done. Just one drawback that I should mention. Everything takes so long, and the glasses you already have will not be mush good. I no longer need my distance glasses, but reading is proving difficult until I get my new prescription… All will be wonderful, eventually, but I’m not the most patient person in the world.

Wow that is good news. I hope it continues to go well for you. I know that the healing and adjusting will take time. The specialist said that my current progessive lens glasses will be no good. He said that I might only need glasses for reading. I am feeling positive because I have heard some many success stories. Thank you for sharing with me, much appreciated πβπ¦π»πΊπ

Oh wow, this could be a real game changer for you. When do you think they’d do the other eye? My mother has cataracts but she’s not keen (at all) on the idea of the surgery, though the GP and Specsavers don’t think it’s bad enough just yet to put her forward for surgery anyway. I think the bar is higher now for NHS surgery around here so you have to have it very very badly before you’ll get the surgery. In case I don’t get to nearer the time, I’ll wish you all the very best for the surgery on the 17th!

Thanks Caz. The bar for NHS is high here in Australia. They have got a category system with ‘1’ being an emergency. I was placed on a category 2 and only needed to wait three months. The initial waiting list for the first assessment is much longer and of course that also depends on the referral from your optician. The surgery doesn’t usually require a general anesthetic. I wish you mother all the best with her eyes. Cheers Ally xx

I am seeing this a week after your surgery date. I hope all went well. My husband had no trouble with his cataract surgeries and recovered nicely. I trust that the Lord healed mine.

The first cataract surgery went well thanks. Recovering nicely. I go back for review in about 3 weeks. For the first time in 60 years I can see clearly ,might only need glasses for reading. I am feeling blessed.
